Directly Current Episode 2: EVs Have A Charging Problem
Directly Current, our newly launched podcast, is back for its second week with a duo interview! This time Max sat down with Karl Doenges from the North American Convenience Store Association and John Eichberger from the Transportation Energy Institute. Aside from the long acronyms, these organizations represent folks who could most directly impact EV charging in the US with their fueling station partners — think Bucc-ee’s, QuickTrip, 7-11, Sheetz, etc.
Karl and John are EV enthusiasts. They also provide a unique perspective given their lobbying experience for various fueling solutions. Given this work, they know where the shortcomings lie for consumers and what obstacles have to be crossed to get reliable, business-sustainable charging in place for North America. The EV industry only just recently got its plug situation figured out in the US, consolidating on the (not confusing at all) NACCS — North American Charging Standard — developed by Tesla to plug into everyone’s EVs. For now, there’s a lot of confusion to unpack. Listen to their conversation to get a good grip on the issues and how they can be solved.
